WWF CLIMATE SOLVER 2009 award to Neo Power Technology

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) presented solutions developed by seven climate entrepreneurs at the Stockholm Cleantech Venture Day last week. Among the companies received the Climate Solver 2009 award is the Norwegian technology company Neo Power Technology AS.

Neo Power has received this prestigious award for its development of the Supersonic Wave Engine (SWE), a new engine technology that offers up to 45 per cent higher fuel efficiency when compared with current internal-combustion engines.

In Neo Power’s new engine, fuel combustion has been replaced by detonation of the natural gas or hydrogen, and rotation by oscillatory motion. This enables a radical increase in the fuel and mechanical efficiency. The solution is applicable to car and skip engines and to power stations. The development is carried out in collaboration with the US leading research centre in the field of pulse detonation.

“Neo Power has the potential to develop into an export success capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 50 million tonnes. That is equivalent to Sweden’s total annual CO2 emissions,” explains Stefan Henningsson, Climate Programme Director at WWF Sweden.
WWF works extensively to tackle environmental challenges, with a particular focus on deforestation, water pollution and, since 2007, the improvement of conditions for the development and commercialisation of innovative technologies to tackle climate change.

“In order to be able to reach environmental targets, there is a need for investments in the breakthrough technologies; that is, technologies with radical improvement potential that are on the threshold of coming to market, but are not on the market yet,” explains Magnus Emfel, Manager of Climate Innovations at WWF Sweden.
“The Climate Solver title will contribute to the increased focus on the environmental advantages of our technology and it will be an important driving force for our future work,” says Peter Grubyi,  CEO of Neo Power Technology.
